Introduction and Brief History:

The Public Service Commission is a very important institution of any country, which selects capable people on merit for the civil service of that country.

Public Service Commission of Pakistan:

The Public Service Commission was first established by the Government of India in 1935 under Articles 264, 265, and 266 of the Constitution.

After partition, when Pakistan became a separate and independent country, the government of Pakistan redesigned this body (named the Pakistan Public Service Commission) under Article 188 of the Constitution of 1956 and Article 186 of 1962 of the Constitution.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Public Service Commission was founded by Article 242 of the 1973 Constitution and according to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa PSC Ordinance of 1978.

The First Chairman of KPPSC was Mr. Capt: (R) Sahibzada Muhammad Ayub (1970-1973) and the currently serving chairman is Mr. CAPT. Sikandar QAYYUM (RETD) (08/02/2022 To 07/02/2025).

Functions and Responsibilities of KPPSC:

KPPSC engages in an Indispensable role in the governance of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, so KPPSC has also a Weighty responsibility to choose the right person for various departments to make these more efficient for both the government and the public.

  • Recruitment of Civil Servants: It is the responsibility of the KPPSC to hire capable civil servants and officers for various governments. departments by following integrity and transparency. 
  • Conducting a Competitive Exam: KPPSC has another important responsibility to conduct competitive exams, interviews, and other related tests to select the uttermost suitable and relevant candidate.
  • Advisory Role: KPPSC also proposes to the provincial government on the terms and conditions of civil servants and also gives its suggestions on promotions and disciplinary measures.
  • Promotion of Fair Practices: KPPSC ensures the recruitment process is unbiased and fair and all candidates get equal opportunities irrespective of background.

KPPSC Recruitment Process:

The KPSSC’s recruitment process is defined to access candidates transparently and comprehensively.

Eligibility Criteria: 

There is certain eligibility criteria for each candidate that must be met by each candidate, such as

  • Qualification: The minimum academic requirement is graduation from any HEC-recognised university. 
  • Age Limit: From 21-30 years (till the last date of the current job advertisement), there is age relaxation for certain situations (2 Years Relaxation for government employees, 2 years for disabled persons and 2 years for backward areas) but usually the upper age limit can not be relaxed by the KPPSC to any individuals. More details about age relaxation may be mentioned in the advertisement.
  • Domicile Required: Candidates must possess a valid Khyber Pakhtunkhwa domicile, dual domicile holder candidates application may rejected by the concerned authority.

Recruitment Rules for Candidates: 

  • The KPPSC is advertising the required vacancies to its official online Portal or by the leading newspapers across the country.
  • The candidate must apply online by creating an account registering with CNIC, email, and personal information as required. 
  • The candidate has to pay the required application fee online before the deadline. 
  • The application may be rejected by the KPPSC if incomplete or contains false information.
  • The age limit is usually mentioned in the advertisement, which shall be read carefully by the candidates to avoid any misconceptions.
  • There are an additional 3 marks for those candidates who completed the Hifz e Quran, 2 marks for additional relevant qualifications, 3 marks for highly educated candidates, and 10 marks shall be awarded if the candidate has the relevant experience for which he is applying.
  • If candidates meet the required qualifications, they are only invited for the written exam, interview, or viva exam.
  • In exceptional cases, maximum age relaxation may granted by the commission depending on the situation.

BRT Peshawar on a Brief Overview:

BRT Peshawar

Introduction:

Peshawar is the capital of KPK and has a total population of 2.4 million as of 2024. Before BRT started the capital was facing several issues including traffic congestion due to an increasing number of vehicles, residents relying on expensive and less reliable transport options, and increasing pollution and fuel consumption.

All these issues were the reason for initiating an eco-friendly, affordable, and reliable transport to overcome these problems, which gave the result of the BRT system working under TransPeshawar (established and registered with the Security and Exchange Commission of Pakistan in February 2017)

Inauguration of BRT:

The BRT also known as ZU Peshawar, was finally inaugurated on August 13, 2020, after long awaited by the people.

The opening ceremony was hosted by the CM Mr. Parvez Khattak. It was a joint project of the Government of KPK and the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

It has a capacity of 250,000 daily passengers. 

Received Awards:

The BRT system is 1st in the subcontinent, 3rd in Asia, and 11th globally to receive a gold standard service award from the ADB Technical Committee. For providing passenger-oriented, environment-friendly facilities.

Also received the certificate of International Sustainable Award from the International Transport Organization, and the UN Women has also been honored for providing the best and safest traveling facility to women.

The BRT Peshawar system covers a vast network of routes, connecting key areas like Karkhano Market, Saddar, Hayatabad, and Peshawar University. The main route spans approximately 27 kilometers, with additional feeder routes to extend coverage.
