Introduction:
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Chief Minister, Ali Amin Khan Gandapur, is making big efforts to boost tourism in the region.
In a recent tourism development meeting, he approved the new “Mezban” homestay program KPK, which will officially begin on December 15, 2024.
Through this program, tourists will have the chance to stay in comfortable local homes, allowing them to experience the true culture and hospitality of the area.
The initiative aims not only to provide travelers with a unique and memorable stay but also to create new job opportunities for local residents, supporting the community while promoting tourism.

Key Aspects of the Mezban Homestay Program KPK:
The Mezban Homestay Program is designed to make visitors’ experiences more enjoyable in the beautiful areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Here’s what makes it special:
- Interest-Free Loans: Families in tourist areas can now get interest-free loans up to 3 million PKR to start or upgrade homestays. With an initial 395 million PKR budget, the program covers loan costs and offers training to help locals welcome guests and boost their incomes.
- Home Upgrades: Participants can set up or improve up to two rooms specifically for tourists. Each room needs to include basic comforts like a private bathroom and kitchen to ensure guests have a pleasant and comfortable stay.
- Initial Target Districts: The program will first launch in Upper Chitral, Lower Chitral, Upper Dir, Lower Dir, Mansehra, Abbottabad, and Swat. These areas were chosen because of their strong tourism potential and the local community’s interest in the homestay idea.
- Loan Repayment Terms: The Bank of Khyber will manage these interest-free loans, which come with a five-year repayment period. Participants will begin repayments in the second year, allowing them time to grow their homestay business before payments start.
Boosting Local Economy through Tourism:
This program seeks to unlock Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s vast tourism potential, increasing provincial revenue and creating local jobs.
By encouraging residents to welcome tourists into their homes, it provides income opportunities and promotes cultural exchange, giving visitors a chance to experience the region’s rich heritage up close.
Facilities to Ensure Tourist Comfort:
In addition to the Mezban program, the government has planned several infrastructure upgrades to enhance the overall experience for tourists.
- Restroom Facilities: Clean and comfortable restrooms will be added along major highways in tourist areas, making travel easier and more pleasant for all visitors.
- Tourist Facilitation Centers: More Tourist Assistance Centers will open in these areas, offering helpful advice, maps, and essential resources to help visitors explore and fully enjoy the local attractions.
Conclusion:
The Mezban Homestay Program is an exciting initiative aimed at boosting tourism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
This project not only seeks to make the province a top destination for visitors in Pakistan, but it also focuses on helping the local community by creating job opportunities.
By promoting a welcoming homestay experience, the program highlights Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s commitment to sustainable tourism and strengthening the local economy.
With the deadline set for December 15, the province is on the path to a brighter future in the tourism industry.
