Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Energy Sector Breakthrough: New Transmission Line Project”

Introduction:

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has made a significant advancement in the energy sector by signing an important agreement with a private company, Netracon, to set up its own new power transmission line.

This makes KP the first province in Pakistan to build its own transmission network, a project led by Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur.

The signing ceremony was held at the Chief Minister’s House in Peshawar, attended by officials from the Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organization (PEDO) and representatives from Netracon.

Project Phases for KP’s Power Transmission Line:

The KP transmission line project will be completed in two phases,

Phase 1: From Matiltan to Madain (Swat):

In the first stage, a 40-kilometer transmission line with a 132/220 kV capacity will be built from Matiltan to Madain (Swat).

This part of the project is expected to cost PKR 8 billion and should be completed within 18 months.

The new line will carry electricity from the 84 MW Matiltan Hydropower Project, along with other KP government projects in Swat, to the national grid or to local industries at lower rates.

Once this stage is finished, it’s expected to bring in PKR 7 billion in annual revenue for the provincial government.

Phase 2: Expansion from Madain to Chakdara:

In the second phase of the Swat Corridor Transmission Line Project, the transmission line will be extended by 80 kilometers from Madain to Chakdara.

This extension will help distribute electricity from several hydropower projects, each generating hundreds of megawatts, that the provincial government is currently developing in Swat.

Strategic Importance of the KP Transmission Line Project:

This transmission line project is an important part of KP’s commitment to sustainable development and is one of the government’s top initiatives.

Chief Minister Gandapur emphasized that, once completed, the project will greatly improve KP’s energy and industrial sectors.

By supplying affordable electricity to local businesses, KP aims to attract more investors, create new job opportunities, and boost economic growth in the region.

Hydropower Potential in KP:

KP has plenty of hydropower resources, and the current government is committed to using these to boost development and create jobs.

They are also working to set up a Provincial Power Regulatory Authority to manage these resources effectively.

This initiative shows KP’s dedication to sustainable growth and self-reliance, marking a big step forward for the province’s energy sector and overall economy.
